A Star to Light the Way: A Prayer for 2025

For years, our Christmas tree was crowned with a beautiful angel. She was delicate, radiant, and held a special place in our holiday traditions. But last year, as I was unpacking decorations, I discovered that my beloved angel had broken. Heartbroken, I planned to replace her but forgot to do so in the busyness of the season. When it came time to decorate this year, I rummaged through our storage, hoping to find something suitable. Tucked away with decorations from a secondary tree we used to have when the kids were teenagers, I found an old star. It wasn’t what I’d envisioned, but it would have to do.

As I placed the star atop our tree, I was reminded of something I heard recently: "The star atop the tree reminds us that on that first Christmas night, the Star lit the way." That thought settled deeply in my heart. The star wasn’t just a practical solution; it became a profound symbol of hope and guidance.

Reflecting on the Star

Looking at the star now, I see more than just a tree topper. I see a reminder of Jesus, the Light of the World, who came to guide us in our darkness. The star that led the wise men to Bethlehem pointed them to the Savior. Today, Jesus continues to light the way for us, illuminating our paths with His presence and His Word.

Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet, and a light for my path.” Just as the star guided the wise men to Jesus, God’s Word is our guiding light, leading us through the uncertainties of life. When we allow His Word to direct our steps, we find peace, clarity, and purpose—even when the path ahead feels unclear.

From Angel to Star

I used to feel strongly that an angel belonged on our tree. After all, it was the angel who announced the birth of Jesus to the shepherds, proclaiming “good news of great joy” (Luke 2:10). But this year, I’ve come to appreciate the star in a new way. It’s not about choosing one over the other; it’s about the meaning behind them. The angel represents the joyous proclamation of Christ’s birth, while the star symbolizes the guiding light that leads us to Him. Both point us to the Savior, and both remind us of the beauty of that holy night.

A Prayer for the New Year

As I reflect on the star atop my tree, my prayer for 2025 is simple: that Jesus, the Light of the World, would light my way in the coming year. I pray for His guidance in the decisions I make, the paths I take, and the challenges I face. Just as the star led the wise men to worship Jesus, I pray that His light would lead me to a deeper relationship with Him.

Would you join me in this prayer?

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, to be the Light of the World. As we look to the star atop our trees this Christmas, may we be reminded of the light that led the wise men to Bethlehem. Let Your Word guide our steps as we enter 2025. Illuminate our paths, give us clarity in uncertainty, and draw us closer to You each day. May we trust in Your guidance and walk in the light of Your presence. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Whether your tree is topped with a star, an angel, or something else entirely, let it remind you of the beauty and hope of Christmas. The decorations we cherish hold stories and meanings that point us to the Savior. This year, as you gaze at your tree, may you be reminded that Jesus is the Light of the World, the one who lights our way—not just at Christmas, but every day of the year.

Here's Wishing you and your Family a Happy New Year!
